How I Deal With Disappointment

I'm betting you've poured your heart, soul, and probably a few sleepless nights into crafting something you truly believe in. But when you hit that "launch" button .... crickets.

“Uggggghhhh.”

That gut-wrenching feeling when things don't go the way you'd hoped.

There's no sugar coating it.

Disappointment sucks.

But here's the thing: it's also a sign that you're putting yourself out there. Taking risks and trying new things. If you're not failing or feeling disappointed now and then, you're probably playing it safe.

And that's not the path to growth & success.

I love this quote from Spanx founder, Sarah Blakeley,

"My dad encouraged us to fail.

Growing up, he would ask us what we failed at that week. If we didn't have something, he would be disappointed. It changed my mindset at an early age that failure is not the outcome, failure is not trying.

Don't be afraid to fail."

Such a great perspective.

So, take heart & learn to normalise failure.

Failing is actually a good sign.

Here are my top tips to FLIP failure on its head and move past that disappointment.

1. Give Yourself Some Grace

Being an entrepreneur ain't easy and it's okay to cut yourself some slack. Which is why it's so important to celebrate all your wins. Even those small victories. Acknowledge your efforts and remember that setbacks don't define you.

You're doing the dang thing and that deserves a pat on the back.

Just think about all the people out there who've dreamt about running their own business but didn't have the gumption to even start. And look at you, chasing your dreams.

That takes courage and strength.

2. Drop Those Stories You're Telling Yourself.

You know the ones. "I'm not good enough," or "Nobody's interested ." or " Maybe I'm not cut out for business."

They're lies.

Pure and simple. Instead, flip the script and focus on your strengths, past wins & embrace the endless possibilities for growth.

3. Get Curious

Dealing with disappointment is just part of the entrepreneurial journey. You're not going to be able to dodge it. Learn to embrace the lessons and scars, knowing they're stepping stones to success.

So get curious.

What can you learn from this?

What can you try differently next time?

Learn to embrace it. Learn from it. Grow from it.

Dust yourself off & come back stronger.

4. Connect Back To Your Why

I always go back to my BIG why. Why did I started my business in the first place. Reconnecting with that a with your why, stay laser-focused on your goals and keep moving forward, one step at a time

5. This Isn't The End.

It's just a detour on the road to success. So dust yourself off, maybe indulge in a pint of Ben & Jerry's (no judgment here), and get back in the saddle.

Because the next launch?

It might just be the one that sends your rocket ship soaring.

Chin up, buttercup.

You've got this.
